Frequently Asked Questions

The following section has been compiled to provide clear information on some of the more general questions which have been posed by our clients.

What is the difference between an Internet with an extension
'.com', '.fr' etc. ?

A trademarks with an extension becomes what is know as a 'Domain Name', for example 'netmarque.net' or 'francetelecom.fr'. The extension gives additional information on the company or trademark which owns or controls the Internet name. In effect '.fr' designates that the company is situated in France, as '.es' would indicate Spain. An Internet name with a '.fr' is controlled by the 'AFNIC' in France, '.com' by the InterNIC in the USA etc. '.com' implies commercial, '.net' network and '.org' organisation and are more international in their usage.
