When telephoning someone you must compose their telephone number, this is also how computers work on the Internet. These numbers are called 'IP Addresses' and each Internet machine is allocated one. To help so as not to have to remember all these number there are systems which can convert between a written name to an IP number. These systems are called Domain Name Servers (DNS).
A domain name therefore is a human readable computer address on the Internet. For example the address of the NetMarque web site is :
http://www.NetMarque.net our domain name being 'NetMarque.net', with our IP address being '62.8.22.56'.
